Symbols used to classify the fire resistance of a construction

E - durability

Strength (E) is the ability of a component or construction to maintain its strength on only one side of the element, without allowing the fire to spread to the unheated side as a result of the penetration of flames or hot gases. 

EW - robustness and emission reduction

lower thermal emissivity

Diffusion reduction (W) is the ability of a component or construction to maintain the rigidity of the element on one side only, reducing the possibility of significant thermal diffusion or the spread of fire through an element or from its unheated surface to adjacent materials.

EI - durability and insulation

insulation against high temperature

Insulation is the ability of a component or construction to maintain its solidity on only one side of the element without allowing fire to spread as a result of a significant heat flow from a heated side to a non-heated side. During a fire, the construction on the unheated side reaches a maximum temperature between +140oC and +180oC.
